I take great pride in the fact that the architecture I create is diverse and eclectic. I intentionally avoid having a signature style because I believe that each building should have its own unique personality. While many designers choose to stick to a particular style, I have always been drawn to the idea of designing buildings that are different from one another to suit the individual who has commissioned the building. 

A famous architect once said, "There should be as many styles of houses as there are kinds of people and as many differentiations as there are different individuals. A person who has individuality has a right to their own expression and their own living environment." I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. I find joy in the challenges that come with creating distinct designs, such as developing new details and exploring innovative construction methods. I never rely on the same documentation from previous projects as they can become outdated; instead, I constantly strive to push the boundaries of design and discover new possibilities.

The desires and preferences of my clients play a crucial role in my design process. With more adventurous clients who give me creative freedom, I am able to deliver architecture that meets their specific criteria while also adhering to building codes. This allows me to create visually unique and captivating structures. The ideas for these designs can arrive day or night, bouncing around in my head until I can bring them to life through preliminary design sketches and by developing the detailed drawings.

Every project presents its own set of challenges. I constantly adapt and modify my ideas to suit the specific site's environment, the client's needs, and the budget. Additionally, I must navigate the complex regulations set by local councils and developers' covenants. There is a multitude of factors to consider, but I find it exhilarating and gather inspiration from books, personal experiences, and architectural magazines. These sources continue to fuel my passion for design and drive me to create truly remarkable spaces enjoyed by all.

Sports and activities have always been a significant part of my life, allowing me to explore various passions and push my limits. From the adrenaline-fueled world of BMX and the grace of gymnastics to the rough and tumble of rugby league and rugby, I have embraced the challenges and joys of each discipline. Athletics, swimming, tennis, squash, and boxing have also played a role in shaping my athletic journey, while mountain / road biking and half marathons have tested my endurance.

But it's not just sports that bring me joy. I have found and still find solace and excitement in a range of activities. Fishing allows me to connect with nature and find tranquillity on the water. Snowboarding and wakeboarding provide an exhilarating rush (when and if I get to glide across the slopes and waves). Hiking takes me on adventures through breathtaking landscapes, while bungee jumping and skydiving have satisfied my thirst for adrenaline. Hunting, a cherished Kiwi tradition, allows me to embrace my roots and connect with the land. Kayaking, especially with my father-in-law Brent, leads us on thrilling river explorations, and paddleboarding offers a peaceful way to navigate serene waters.

When it's time to unwind, I find relaxation in simple pleasures. Reading transports me to different worlds and expands my horizons. Cooking allows me to express my creativity and nourish both body and soul. Lounging at the beach, basking in the warm sun, brings a sense of calm and contentment. Spending quality time with my loved ones, whether it's family gatherings or catching up with friends, fills my heart with joy.

Music, in all its diverse genres, from soothing piano melodies to energetic dance beats, serves as the soundtrack to my life. Engaging in board games, card games, building Lego, and drawing with my oldest son creates cherished memories and strengthens our bond.

In this rich tapestry of my professional life, sports, activities, and relaxation, I find fulfilment and a true reflection of who I am. Each experience adds a unique flavour to my life, making it a vibrant and fulfilling journey that is truely rewarding.
