Once the construction is complete, a new urban area, park, or building possesses the potential to outlive every individual involved in its design, engineering, and construction. It will even endure beyond the lifetimes of those who formulated and enforced the regulations that governed its approval. Furthermore, it will continue to serve its purpose long after those who initiated and financed its creation have passed away.
This is precisely why the development of our built environment should not be controlled by short-sighted or narrow-minded interests. It should not be excessively influenced by the numerous factors that can often shape it: the ignorance of individuals, the indifference or instinctive resistance to change, the presence of corruption or greed.
